Mahindra teased the impending 2022 Scorpio with a new teaser video earlier in the week. Amitabh Bachan provides the narration for the one-and-a-half-minute teaser. It also has the soundtrack from Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather film. Using this specific background track as a symbol of power and control over the competitors, Mahindra seems to have picked this particular tune. Just like the Godfather used to do.
Mahindra Scorpio N 2022 Leaks
New photographs of the vehicle’s production have now surfaced. The first white 2022 Mahindra Scorpio has moved off the assembly line for sale. In the front, we observe a new vertical slat grille, the replacement of the previous oval Mahindra emblem with a fresh one, C-shaped LED DRLs with fog lights, and many more features. The chrome underpinning of the double-barrel headlamp design is visible. Only the low beam is equipped with a projector, while the high beam is outfitted with a reflector.
This time around, the Scorpio’s chrome beltline rises from the C-pillar and continues through the D-pillar and back. In addition, it will receive new 18-inch wheels with broad and high-profile tyres. Silver inlays will be added to the body covering on the side. In contrast to the flush-designed door handles of the XUV700, it has conventional door handles.
The new Scorpio’s rear end will have a side-hinged tailgate that has been revised. The Scorpio’s rear bumper is noticeably thinner than the previous model’s. A chrome strip connects the two reverse lights on each side of the bumper. The false skid plate at the back is similarly silver-colored like the side cladding insert.
Specs and Capabilities
The 2.2L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine is set to power the new Scorpio. Both a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic may be used. Many people have their own ideas about how much influence the approaching Scorpio will have. A test mule with 130 horsepower was recently sighted, matching the output of Thar diesel models. However, by the looks of it, that specific car was a basic model.
There is now a new trailer that shows that even in slow motion, the Big Daddy Scorpio is very quick. This suggests that the 130 horsepower number shown on the spy test car may only apply to the entry-level trim levels of the automobile. In contrast, the XUV700, which is powered by the same engine, has a higher-capacity version with 153 horsepower or even 183 hp. There is no word yet on a petrol-powered Scorpio.
According to the teaser, the vehicle would have a slew of cutting-edge technologies. Some of these features include an Android Auto and Apple CarPlay-compatible touchscreen infotainment system, automated temperature control, heated and ventilated 3rd row seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Lane keep assist, active cruise control, and an emergency brake system may be added to Scorpio’s ADAS capabilities, as can other features from the XUV700. For safety, Mahindra is projected to equip the new Scorpio with six or seven airbags, EBD, ESP, TCS, TPMS and a few more features.
The ladder-frame chassis of the Mahindra Scorpio will allow it to operate in both the urban and natural environments. Select models of the new Scorpio in 2022 will be equipped with a 4WD system, enhancing its all-terrain versatility.
Competition and Price
The 2022 Scorpio will fight with the likes of Alcazar, Harrier, Safari, Hector, Hector Plus, and Mahindra’s own XUV700 in the D-segment SUV market in India. In addition, the Scorpio is the only SUV that combines the sturdiness of a ladder-frame chassis with the ease of a 4X4 system into one vehicle.
Mahindra will shortly release the price of Big Daddy Scorpio. As with the starting costs of previous Mahindra goods, we can anticipate this one to be quite competitively priced. The price of the Scorpio is expected to begin at roughly Rs 12.5 million (Ex-Showroom, India). When Mahindra’s ‘Big Daddy SUV’ goes on sale, the powertrain and design choices they choose will be consistent with the image they’re aiming to project.
