India’s most famous SUV, the Mahindra Scorpio, is returning in a new form. Aspirational vehicles for many middle-class shoppers were originally SUVs. The SUV was first introduced in 2002, and it quickly became a popular vehicle. Despite some early issues, the Scorpio went on to dominate the sales rankings, selling more than 80,000 units worldwide since its introduction.
The Scorpio’s aesthetic appeal was a major factor in its subsequent commercial success. The Scorpio was a huge hit in India because it was so muscular. People wanted an SUV that looked meaty, thick, and massive, and that’s exactly what they got. Sophistication, refinement, and an upscale appearance were conspicuously absent from the Scorpio’s design.
The new Mahindra Scorpio-N appears to have altered all of that. Mahindra claims that the new Scorpio N, the SUV’s third iteration in the previous twenty years, is the latest generation of Scorpio and is techy with new features.

Mahindra Scorpio-N: Exterior
Let’s begin with dimensions. The Scorpio-N is 4,662 millimetres long, 1,917 millimetres wide, and 1,857 millimetres tall. The new wheelbase is 2,750 mm, an increase of 70 millimetres.
The new Scorpio-N has a completely fresh appearance compared to the old one. This new Scorpio-N lacks the old Scorpio’s raw appeal, but we think it’s a good step forward because the new Scorpio-N still has the muscular appearance and the visual heft, but it still looks premium. The old Scorpio had a rugged appearance, while the new Scorpio-N has a luxurious SUV appearance without sacrificing any of the car’s muscularity.
When it comes to the new Scorpio-general N’s appearance, it’s vastly different from previous iterations. The grille is vertically slatted with chrome and the bonnet is muscular with strong character lines at the front of the vehicle. The hood scoop has been eliminated, and the LED projector headlights and LED daytime running lights in the form of a scorpion’s sting in the shape of C-shaped pods have been added.
The 17 or 18-inch wheels and 255-section tyres on the side give it a sporty flair, as do the beefed-up wheel arches. Another feature that lends it a high-end appearance is a chrome line that extends from the bottom of the A-pillar to the top of the C-pillar.

When viewed from the rear, it has a very Volvo-like appearance thanks to the vertical stacking of the LED tail lamps. There are no resemblances to the previous generation’s rear-end design in any way, shape, or form. Scorpio-N gets a side-opening door from the previous generation Scorpio despite having bench seats in the third row instead of jump seats. This is an interesting detail.
Mahindra Scorpio-N: Interior & Features
Inside the new Scorpio N’s cabin, you’ll notice a dramatic shift from the previous model.
Compared to the Scorpio Classic, the interior arrangement has undergone a considerable overhaul. With a coffee brown and black colour scheme throughout the cabin, the inside looks great and unusual.
The piano black centre console has a classy appearance, but it’s a magnet for dirt and grime. In addition to the 8-inch infotainment system with AdrenoX connected vehicle technology, which includes Alexa, and a Snapdragon SD6 CPU for 70+ connected car capabilities, it incorporates vertically-oriented air-con vents. As an added bonus, a Sony 3-D audio system with 12 speakers will be installed in the console. Many audiophiles will appreciate the system’s superb sound quality.
With wireless charging, a front-facing camera with parking sensors and a rear-facing camera with parking sensors, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers and a dual-zone climate control system, this vehicle has everything you’d expect from a luxury vehicle. In addition to the conventional speedometer and tachometer, the driver is provided with a 7-inch digital driver information display, which displays navigation, driving information, the driver’s sleepiness state as well as other settings and information.
Similar to the XUV 700, the wheel has a flat-bottomed design. Controls for the infotainment system and cruise control are located on its steering wheel. It’s comfortable to handle, and it’s wrapped with leather. However, it can only be adjusted in height.
As for the second row, clients can choose between a captain’s chair and a bench seat. When it comes to space, the Scorpio-N excels with plenty of leg, knee, and headroom. The under-thigh support is also fairly amazing, and it comes with rear A/C vents with a blower controller and a USB-C charging connector as well.
If you want to go to the third row, you’ll need to slide the left seat forward in the second row. Previously, it was said that the third row of the Scorpio-N has standard bench seats, rather than jump seats. The third row isn’t that difficult to get into, but the chairs aren’t very comfy for lengthy periods of time. The back of the couch does not have any AC vents, cupholders, or charging ports for electronic devices. The third row of a car is usable by adults since they can sit in it for brief periods of time.
Mahindra Scorpio-N: Engine & Transmission
There are two engine and two transmission options for the Scorpio-N. The 2.2-liter mHawk turbo diesel engine comes in two different tunings, depending on the model you choose. 172 bhp and 400 nm of torque are available in the Z4 and Z4+ diesel motors, respectively, in the Z2 and Z2+ models. Three driving modes are available for the diesel, which are termed Zip, Zap and Zoom.
The 2.0-liter mStallion turbocharged engine delivers 200 bhp of power and 380 Nm of maximum torque in the petrol.
The 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmissions are available for both gasoline and diesel engines. There is also a 4×4 diesel-powered version for those who enjoy off-roading.
Mahindra Scorpio-N: Performance & Handling
The top-of-the-line Z8 model with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine and a 6-speed automated transmission served as our primary test vehicle. The petrol engine is a well-tuned machine that can generate a significant amount of power at any given time. With a maximum output of 200 horsepower, it’s more than capable of moving all of this weight quickly.
The turbo lag is well-controlled, and the acceleration is more than adequate. The engine and 6-speed torque converter gearbox work well together, resulting in smooth shifts that occur at a reasonable rate. The gear lever serves as a manual shifter in the absence of paddle shifters.
The ride quality of the Scorpio-N is noticeably superior to that of the previous model year’s model year. The previous model’s major flaw was its tendency to roll over. There was a lot of body roll in this SUV at higher speeds because of its tall design, and doing so in an older Scorpio would have resulted in enormous body roll and even the risk of a rollover.
Mahindra says they’ve done a lot of effort to reduce body roll, and it’s easy to see why when you get behind the wheel. We put the car through its paces and found that, despite its ladder-frame chassis, the new Scorpio-N handled better than its predecessor. However, in order to reduce body roll, the suspension has been stiffened slightly, which has had an adverse effect on the vehicle’s ride quality. Of course, the handling and stability advantages of this compromise outweigh the disadvantages.
Off Road Capabilities
The new Scorpio-off-road N’s prowess was demonstrated on a trail in Panvel as well. Selectable 4WD and terrain modes are included with the Scorpio-N. Mechanical and brake locking differentials regulate the amount of slip at each axle electrically as well.
The new Scorpio-all-wheel N’s drive system performs admirably, and the 4-low mode comes in handy when the terrain becomes tough. The off-road track features a variety of obstacles, such as steep ascents and descents, slush, articulation, and side inclines. For most of the race, we were driving in 4H mode, but we had to switch to 4L in order to get additional traction and torque. As a whole, the SUV handled all challenges with ease.
Mahindra Scorpio-N: Safety Features
All-wheel disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, driver fatigue alert, and roll-over mitigation are just some of the many safety features that come standard on the new Scorpio-N. Mahindra’s prior vehicle ratings suggest that the new Scorpio-N could also receive a good rating, even though it has not yet been crash tested.
Mahindra Scorpio-N: Colour Options
Napoli Black, Royal Gold, Everest White, Deep Forest, Dazzling Silver, Red Rage, and Grand Canyon are the seven colours of Mahindra Scorpio N. You will have to wait for a long period if you need some of the most demanding colours among these.
Mahindra Scorpio N Mileage 2022
For Petrol versions, Scorpio-N users report a mileage of 10.00 kmpl in the city and 12.00 kmpl on the highway. Whereas, the diesel model of Mahindra Scorpio N gives 11.23 kmpl in the city and 13.29 on the highway. The Scorpio-N Petrol and Diesel models have a similar tank capacity of 57 litres.
Mahindra Scorpio N: Variants & Pricing
The Mahindra Scorpio-N will be available in five models: Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8 and Z8L. Talking about the Scorpio price in India, the Z2’s base petrol MT and diesel MT models have a sticker price of Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 12.49 lakh, respectively.
For petrol, the Z4 MT would cost Rs 13.49 lakh, and for diesel, Rs 13.99 lakh. Only diesel will be offered in the Z6 model, which would retail for Rs 14.99 lakh on the MT. Mahindra Scorpio N automatic price starts from 14 lakhs in India.
